At a holding centre on a remote Scottish island a disparate group of asylum seekers await a decision on their future. They share their hopes and fears with each other as they try to adjust to the location which, geographically speaking at least, could be the end of the world! The central character Omar, a reserved young Syrian, is a musician who carries with him his grandfather’s oud, an instrument of deep cultural and personal significance. He wonders if he’ll ever play it again. The refugees also have to contend with bizarre cultural awareness classes and the strange ways of the local community. What distinguishes the film though is its consistently deadpan style which highlights the almost surreal nature of the whole experience. Managing to be relevant, funny and deeply moving, “Limbo” has charmed critics and audiences alike.

The screening, which will be exclusively for those who were society members in 2019/20, will be at The Collection and start at 7.30pm. The café bar will be open from 6.30pm to allow for some pre-film refreshments and socialising. The auditorium at The Collection has a much smaller capacity than our previous venue, so booking is essential. So, only those who were members in 2019/20 and have booked in advance may attend – no guests or walk-ins.
