An anthology of six standalone stories on the subject of revenge, “Wild Tales” gleefully rampages its way through episodes involving violent road-rage, a gourmet diner with rat poison on the menu and the wedding reception from hell! Hilarious and tragic in equal measure, the film also hits the mark as a satire on contemporary Argentina, as its protagonists struggle at the very end of their tether, faced with ubiquitous inequality, corruption and absurd Kafkaesque bureaucracy. Eventually action has to be taken, however reckless, and the characters in “Wild Tales” opt explosively for full-on cathartic revenge, relishing, in the words of director Szifrón, “the undeniable pleasure of losing control”!
