Like “You the Living”, shown at Film Society a few years ago, Roy Andersson’s latest film once again explores the eccentric characters, bizarre behaviour and surreal events that can be encountered in seemingly ordinary everyday life. Central to the film is a pair of travelling salesmen, touting novelty items such as plastic vampire teeth! Moving effortlessly between the past and present in a series of surreal vignettes, their deadpan encounters reveal the dark core of human nature. An unsettling black comedy (think Ingmar Bergman meets Monty Python), “A Pigeon…” presents us with a slice of life – but not as we think we know it!
