Small town everyday life has never seemed more appealing than in “Paterson”, the latest film from Jim Jarmusch, dab hand at the quirky and the minimalist. We follow the unchanging daily routine of the eponymous Paterson (resident of Paterson NJ) over the course of a week, both at home and at his work as a bus driver. However, this particular bus driver happens to spend his lunch breaks writing poetry about the city and the people he observes around him. Whether or not Paterson will ever amount to anything as a poet, his verse is greatly appreciated by his devoted wife Laura, also an artist of sorts, with a highly creative line in cupcakes and interior design! “Paterson” is short on drama, but its gentle humour and deadpan hero make for a most engaging and endearing film.
