Nurse Floria’s late shift on a surgical ward in a busy hospital comes under the microscope in this incisive feature that highlights the challenges faced by nursing staff on a daily basis. The shift doesn’t get off to a good start, with one of the nurses absent, and we follow the overstretched team, Floria in particular, as they cope with a variety of challenges and emergencies. We can see how Floria goes about her job with efficiency and humanity in the face of some terrifying situations – but at what personal cost? The film is well paced throughout and brilliantly captures the intensity of the moment. It is well served by excellent performances from Leonie Benesch and an interesting ensemble of patients, encompassing the grateful, the angry and the downright difficult.
