In “Nouvelle Vague”, the filming of Jean-Luc Godard’s seminal first feature ” A bout de souffle” (“Breathless”) is gloriously reimagined by director Richard Linklater. In this wonderful ensemble piece, we witness the sheer originality of Godard’s endeavour and the enthusiasm and sometimes bewilderment of his actors (Jean-Paul Belmondo, Jean Seberg etc). Godard’s unorthodox directing style, filming spontaneously in the streets of Paris, represented a groundbreaking moment in cinema history. There to offer advice and encouragement are fellow luminaries of the French New Wave, including Truffaut, Chabrol and Varda, and veteran of Italian Neo-Realism, Roberto Rossellini. Boasting exuberant performances and enhanced by its atmospheric black and white photography, “Nouvelle Vague” is a witty, highly entertaining homage to the eponymous movement that transformed cinema.

* Please note the earlier start time of 7.15pm, as the screening will be followed by the AGM, taking place in the auditorium.
