Awaiting the results of a biopsy, glamorous pop singer Cléo wanders the streets of Paris killing time in various everyday activities (shops, cafés, cinema etc.), interacting with friends and strangers alike as she ponders the unthinkable. Despite the best efforts of her friends Cléo remains anxious, and the snippets of strangers’ conversations, half overheard, only seem to remind her of her mortality. A chance encounter in a park with a young soldier on his last day of leave, eager to talk about his hopes and fears, changes Cléo’s perspective on life, leading her to confront her preoccupation with superficial glamour. An acclaimed classic, brought stunningly to life by Agnès Varda’s trademark humanism, humour and sheer quirkiness.
